Panoriffic

I just developed the first roll from my new toy.

So now I'm truly broke.

I got my hands on a Hasselblad x-pan.

The quality and sharpness of the images are astounding, I've compared it to the Leica and Zeiss glass and it's pretty much the same.

I got a 45mm and 90mm lens with it. You can also alternate between double frame panoramic, or single 35mm frame, very handy for certain situations.

On one roll of 36 shot 35mm film, you get 20 photos as the frames are 65mm x 24mm.

Some of these I scanned from the contact sheet some I photographed from a tv screen hooked up to an enlarger, so sorry about the quality of the scans.

This was photographed from the TV, so now it's art.

It gave me, a head ache trying to use this camera at first, you totally have to retrain your eye. I feel like I'm starting out in photography again. I'm getting giddy just trying to think of new possability's.

I don't think I've enjoyed myself this much since I first started snapping.

It's a pity the man on the left didn't have barbed wire tatoo's as well.

When lining up to compose the shot, it's more like a cinematographer setting up a widescreen scene, like those old cowboy movies of yester year.

At first I felt guilty buying it, since I can barely scrape by the housing rent, then I thought fuck it, I got a great deal, and you can't take money to the grave.

Although it's made for landscape photography, don't expect too many sunset or beach shots in the future from me.

I'll load photos of italy next week.

Yeah by buyers guilt went away after 10 seconds.

Wish we were neighbors as well, your notilux would be cool to borrow, along with some california subshine ;)

glad it only lasted 10 secs.

and with the proper iso and an nd ... the nocti is useful at full aperture in our wonderful sunshine.

i take it ... there's not too much sunshine in ireland at the moment?

It's spooky I was just reading about these cameras a couple of weeks ago and here you are posting about one!

Brilliant images, Black and White on steroids.
I love the expanded field of view and how it changes the perception of the scene.
Looking forward to seeing more. I admire your dedication to your craft.

Yeah I had read about them, and a few days later I met a man selling one, spooky indeed.

With zero distortion it's very much B&W on steroids.

Thanks most people laugh at me but someday I hope all the work pays off.

Crazy camera.

I was thinking about getting one a few months ago but at £650 for a hammerd body and no lens i think ile stick with a M6.
Posted by Treamus on June 12, 2008 1:44 PM
I payed the same price equivilent in euros, but with two lens, just for a body is not a great deal your right to stick to the m6.

Wow, really fucking cool man. I have recently fallen in love with the panoramic format in still photography.

Cant wait to see what else you do with this camera!

Yes as a format, it makes you really have to look at the scene more.

I love the first shot a lot, some really interesting framing can happen with that cool camera. Photographed from a TV hooked up to an enlarger? Haha that's crazy!!!
Posted by Treamus on June 07, 2008 11:39 AM
Thanks I've only begun to explore the possability's that can be done with it. I may photograph more from the tv in the future, for art's sake.

I got a great deal on it, 1/2 of what some guys sell it for on ebay, from an architect who went broke.
